Why You Should Filter Your Instagram Feed
The other day my cousin Sarah and I were having our regular catching up on life conversation. We got on the subject of “the media” and our frustration with the messages we are bombarded with on the daily. Most of these messages being void of self-love, respect, or inspiration.
Pursuing the topic, Sarah brought up how she had recently given her Instagram feed an overhaul. She had realized the people whose images she scrolled through on the daily, brought more feelings of insecurity, body shame, and sinking levels of self worth, than the positivity, inspiration and self love she desired.
Knowing how much time in a day I spend scrolling “mindlessly” through this montage of images, and messages they carry, I decided it was worth a shot. And believe it or not, it totally works.
In retrospect it makes sense of course. The phrase “you are what you eat” taking on a whole new meaning. We are, no matter how mindlessly it seems, consuming this content, and a lot of it, throughout our day.
So if you are looking to up your motivation, vibrations, or even just refresh your feed. Give it a whirl. Start with defining your values. Ask yourself, what is it I desire from my life right now? What do I need more of? What am I working towards? You can find more inspiration here.
Mindfulness and visualization, motivation to create my blog and business, and to develop a unique editing style were at the top of my list. With these in mind, I filtered out of my “Following” list any profiles that did not align. Then came the fun part.

I searched, and followed trails of hashtags, profile suggestions on pages I already liked, and explored the discover page. Using my defined values as guidelines I found motivating pages, photography portfolios, and all sorts of new inspiration.
It didn’t take long to see the difference. Not only did I have a feed booming with inspiration to keep me on my game, the actual opportunities grew as well. I’ve since collaborated with brands, photographers and various others, pursuing my photography and other projects, that I may not have ever found otherwise!
To wrap up, here re a few profiles I found and added to my new & improved Insta feed:
